Utilities

Olfish has a wealth of built-in utilities with the aim of making data stored in Olfish, easily accessible, and usable.

OLFISH is designed in a modular fashion which allows for tailor-made solutions to address varied user requirements. Real-time data recording is provided by a touch-screen compatible interface named the “Bridge Console”. Editing and browsing of all recorded data is provided by a multifaceted interface named the “Data-Centre” and client specific customisation is provided by the “Customisation” interface. In addition OLFISH has many add-on modules such as the “Report Centre”, “Fleet Activity Optimiser”, Fishing Consultant” among others. They are all designed to add value to the data captured by OLFISH.

Import/Export

Pre-defined company data lists are automatically distributed to vessel databases. Information collected by different vessels during fishing operations can be transmitted and merged automatically on the company master database, or from different companies into a resource-wide database. This utility also allows users to re-export old data if required and receive newly customised company information while at sea.

Catch predictor

A unique catch predictor enables skippers to consult the Olfish database before starting a fishing trip for suggested fishing areas to target. The sophisticated mathematical module “guesses” where catch rate of targeted species are likely to be high based on current environmental conditions and previously stored catch and environmental data. The Catch Predictor produces density distribution maps of the availability of selected fish species based on complex mathematical prediction models.

Fleet Manager

The Fleet Manager is a component used by a manager of a fleet of vessels to setup vessel operating schedules. These schedules indicate which vessels should optimally be fishing, and when, where, and for how long they should be fishing.
There is always more than one possible operating schedule for each fleet of vessels. The Fleet Manager uses an optimisation algorithm to determine a quantitative measure of how effective different schedules are in terms of catch demand, cost efficiency, time and resource management. These measurements are compared and used to determine the schedule that is most suited for each particular fleet of vessels. The catch demand, cost efficiency, time and resource management parameters that are fed to the optimisation algorithm are defined in terms of the following parameter sets: Vessel parameters; Area parameters; General constraints.

Data Backup

Olfish provides a complete backup and recovery solution, needed in the event of data corruption or loss though hardware failure, hard-drive corruption, and accidental deletion of data.
Backups are done either on user demand, or automatically at regular intervals. Backups are complete, including all database content and external files and configuration items.

Wizards

Olfish utilises many easy-to-use program Wizards to guide the user through the various built-in utilities.

Highly Secure

Security access to data tightly controlled and can be restricted to authorised users only. Different levels of access permitted according to the user's security clearance. A number of backup and restore options available to prevent accidental lost of data.

Dynamic Forms

The forms used within Olfish are totally dynamic, with the user being able to modify and/or group the forms to his/her specific preference.

Help

Context-sensitive help is provided throughout the software, and a separate Olfish manual is provided as a PDF (Adobe Acrobat) file.
